Huge: Episodes 6 & 7

August 10, 2010

Sorry for the delay last week – I’ve just moved and everything is hectic – but now we can discuss two episodes at once! Last week, the campers partnered up and went on a “spirit quest” (native appropriations anyone?) and this week the campers have their first weigh in, with various reaction.

Along the way we learn more about Poppy and the other counselors, and Amber and George’s relationship takes a turn. I also liked the conversation about expectations from others, and it’s interesting that it was first brought up in terms of economic pressure from their parents. In other news, Piznarski is the greatest.

So what did you think?

I am so over Ian. Bring on Piznarski.

I have been the biggest Piz fan since day 1. This episode I was really pro-Ian when he decided not too look at the paper with his new/old weight on it. He feels good, and weight is just a number. Yes!!

I also almost cried when Amber and Chloe were reading the Body Peace Treaty — it’s something that everyone needs, especially everyone at Camp Victory. I also really like seeing Chloe’s attitude change. At first she was very self-conscious, nervous, wanting to make friends, etc. Now she definitely has a healthier view of her body. I’m sure that has something to do with affirmations from Trent, but she is also accepting her body as it is.

Speaking of Trent, his partnership with Alistair was so great. They talked about gender non-conformity like it was no big deal, which can be tough for teens (especially hyper-masculine ones). I also loved that Trent continues to call Alistair “Athena”, even though Ian think Trent’s making fun of him.

I am also growing concerned we’re nearing the end of summer. I DON’T WANT THIS SHOW TO END!!
