Getting It Right: Preventing Sexual Violence

A new campaign in Wales has hit the nail on the head in their efforts to prevent sexual violence and the demeaning of women. Click through, and check out the sample “advert” embedded in the article. This campaign does a great job of showing how seemingly “harmless” and “innocent” actions can be threatening to women. AND it points out that there is a lot of gray area between these kinds of actions, and violent/abusive ones.

The Welsh Assembly Government said the campaign aimed to “stamp out unacceptable attitudes and behaviour towards women before it leads to more violent forms of abuse”.

Social attitudes towards women promote the prevalence of violence against women, therefore, combating these attitudes will make abuse of women less acceptable. Thank you Welsh government. I hope this campaign spreads like wildfire. I can only dream of seeing ads like this on USian TV someday.

Awesome. That ad hits the nail on the head SO WELL about what it feels like to hear that stuff day-in, day-out, and to have to be conscious of it, even while doing unrelated things, like working, waiting for the bus, relaxing with a couple friends, or walking home.
