This is one of my favorite posts ever from Shapely Prose, in which guest blogger Marina Wolf Ahmad gives a four-week plan for getting your mind bikini-ready. Yes, your mind. NOT your body. Because Marina’s whole point is that no matter what your body looks like, it is bikini-ready.
If you’re a one-piece kind of woman hankering for a bikini-ready body, I’ve got news for you: EVERY body is bikini ready! Got tits of some sort? Got a crotch to cover? That’s what a bikini is for! When fashion magazines talk about “a bikini body”, they’re just selling you more insecurity. If you want to wear a bikini, all you need is a Bikini Mind.
This plan encourages you to experience your body visually and physically, to appreciate its beauty and to dress for you, not some random people at the beach or pool. It’s a wonderful alternative to the “LOSE 10 POUNDS IN TWO MONTHS!!!!!! OR YOU’LL BE FAT AND WON’T BE ABLE TO WEAR A BIKINI!!! AND NO ONE WILL LIKE YOU!!!” approach to this problem of self-consciousness taken by so many lady mags around this time of year.
Even if you aren’t shopping for bathing suits this year, take some time to appreciate your body. Look, touch, feel. And wear whatever the hell you want. Seriously.
