No, I don’t want to see your dick.

I was happily watching a video on hulu when this ad came on as a commercial:

And it really pisses me off. Maybe it’s because “want to see my dick?” is the message behind half of commercials anyway. Maybe it’s the aggressive, “want some fucking more?” at the end, a line usually delivered in misogynist porn. Maybe it’s that I didn’t choose to watch it originally and felt attacked in my own space.

Anyone have a more eloquent analysis to give?

Dude. That commercial is fucked. If I had been watching something and that just came out of nowhere I would feel extremely put off and angry. I don’t understand how that even qualifies as a commercial. Then again the whole ‘muscle-bound douches in too-tight underwear’ approach has never appealed to me. But I really don’t see how some guy looking deadpan into a camera and saying, quite aggressively (saying not asking), if I ‘want some fucking more’ is going to sell underwear. Is it supposed to appeal to the apparent submissive girl in all women and make them run out and buy Calvin Klein panties for their boyfriends. I just don’t get it. It’s stupid, insulting and unnecessary.

These men are very aggressive and threatening. Becky, I completely agree with your feeling of being attacked. It would not be okay for men to speak to me (or you or anyone else) like that in person, and it’s nearly as scary just seeing it on TV (I say *nearly* because at least on TV there is no actual threat of violence which would definitely be present in person). Ugh. This is not what women want.

    Dear whoever made this commercial,

When I was 15, some dudes on the street thought it would be funny to follow me for a while asking “Do you want to suck my dick?” In person, it is not funny or sexy or anything you seem to want it to be in this commercial. It’s invasive and fucking awful.

    So cut it out.

    Sincerely,
    Emily
